Getting Started

Claiming your computing account

All students will need to have an active account to be able to use the computer facilities in the Drill Hall Library. These accounts will be provided for you by your home institution. The procedure for claiming your computer account will differ between institutions so please see the sections below for more specific information.

University Of Greenwich

Your computer account is created automatically for you once you have completed your registration. Your user account details (username and password) will be the same as the username and password used to complete online registration.

Please note: The creation of your computer account is an automatic procedure that begins once you conclude your registration. This procedure can take up to 24 hours to complete so you may not be able to use your computer account as soon as you are registered.

University of Kent

You will be able to claim your computing account online by going to the following address:

http://www.kent.ac.uk/itaccount

To use this form you must wait at least two working days after receiving your confirmation letter. You will also need to have your Kent ID number (student number) and your surname as they appear on your confirmation letter or on your Kent student ID card.

Alternatively you can register for your computing account by using any PC connected to the Kent network, such as those in the Medway building. If you are unsure which computers to use please speak to a member of staff at the counter.

You will need your Kent ID number (student number)

To log in to a student PC, enter the text: newuser into the username box (using small/lower-case letters). Do not enter a password, click OK and follow the on-screen instructions.

Canterbury Christ Church University

Once you have registered with the University and gained your SMART card you must create your computing account. Some students may have this done for them as part of their induction program but if not you can create your account using any machine connected to the Canterbury network, such as those in the Rowan Williams building at Medway. If you are unsure which computers you may use please speak to a member of staff at the counter.

Further information can be found at http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/induction/students/basics/computing-account.asp
