SCONUL Access
About SCONUL Access
The Universities at Medway partner institutions are members of the SCONUL Access reciprocal scheme. This scheme allows staff and students from other higher education institutions who are members of the SCONUL Access scheme to access the Drill Hall.
We offer reciprocal borrowing rights to the following.
| Band A | Staff and postgraduate research students (PhD, MPhil or similar qualification) |
| Band B | Part-time, distance learning and placement students |
| Band C | Full-time taught postgraduates |
We also offer reference access to full-time undergraduate students.
Please check with your home institution library to see which band is applicable to you.
How to join
If you are visiting the Drill Hall under this scheme, you must first apply for your SCONUL Access Scheme membership card at your home institution. We are not able to issue a SCONUL Access card for you.
On your first visit you will need to bring your SCONUL Access card (authorised by your home institution), your home institution ID card and a passport-sized photograph. We will ask you to complete a registration form and to sign in at reception.
Please note that registration is only available between 9am and 8.30pm Monday to Thursday, 9am and 5.30pm Friday and 11am to 4.30pm at the weekend. Please check our opening times before you visit.
What will I be entitled to at the Drill Hall
When you join the Drill Hall through the SCONUL ACCESS scheme you will receive a Universities at Medway library card. Depending on your eligibility you will either be granted reference access or borrowing rights.
If you are eligible for borrowing rights, you will be entitled to borrow five ordinary or 7-day loan items.
Please note that study loans, overnight loans, inter-site loans (items that show a location of Avery Hill or Maritime Greenwich on our catalogue), inter-library loans, theses/dissertations and reservations are excluded from the scheme.
Due to educational licence agreements, access to university IT facilities and electronic resources (e-books, e- journals and databases), with the exception of the library catalogue, is also excluded. The university is, however a member of Janet Roaming (Eduroam). This allows those in participating institutions wireless access, via their laptop, to the internet by using their home institution username and password. See further information on connecting to the wireless.
During your membership you will be subject to the library rules and are responsible for any debts or charges incurred.
Things to check before you visit
Please check our opening times before you visit.
You may also wish to look at our catalogue to make sure that we have the items that you need.
More information about the scheme and its member libraries can be found on the SCONUL Access website.
M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries

During your membership you will be subject to the Drill Hall’s rules and are responsible for any debts or charges incurred.

Who is eligible to join?

What does the scheme offer?
As a partner institution student you are already entitled to access the Drill Hall with your student ID card and can logon to any of our student PCs using your username and password. You are not, however, able to borrow resources from the Drill Hall.
Membership of the Invicta scheme gives you additional benefits.

- Entitlement to borrow up to five ordinary or 7-day loan items from the Drill Hall’s stock at one time.
To avoid any misunderstanding please note that study loans, overnight loans, inter-site loans (items showing a location of Avery Hill or Maritime Greenwich), inter-library loans, theses/dissertations and reservations are excluded from the scheme.
How do I join?
INVICTA application forms are available from your home institution library, or you can download a copy here.
Take your completed application form to your home institution library in Canterbury for authorisation. If you have outstanding library fines on your account your application will be refused.
Once authorised, bring the application form and your University of Kent or CCCU ID card to the Drill Hall. You will also need to complete our registration process before you can borrow items.
Please note that registration is only available between 9am and 8.30pm Monday to Thursday, 9am and 5.30pm Friday and 11am to 4.30pm at the weekend. Check our opening times and catalogue before you visit.
