What are the library's opening hours?

Our daily opening hours are on our home page. More comprehensive hours can easily be found on our opening hours page.

What do I need to use the library?

You will need your university student ID card to get into the library - no card, no entry. This is also your library card, which you will use to borrow library items.

Do I automatically get a library account?

Yes, all registered students automatically get a library account. Members of staff need to apply for an account at the Helpdesk.

Can I eat and drink in the library?

You can eat and drink in the Archibald Hay Mess cafe. Only drinks with screw-top lids and Keep Cups are allowed within the library. You can also eat cold food in the Group Zone.

Can we work together as a group in the library?

We encourage group working in the Group Zone but ask that you show consideration to those studying nearby. There are also three practice presentation rooms (two of which have interactive touchscreens, wireless presentation facilities and a large 10-seat table) available to book at Reception and a further two open access rooms (DC015 and DC019), which have been designed for group work. For more informal group work we also have four technobooths in the Archibald Hay Mess.

Where can I find a quiet place to work?

The Silent Zone, which is located at the far left-hand end of the Library, has a mixture of individual study carrels, study desks and PCs for individual silent study. Talking (including whispering) and the use of mobile phones are not permitted in this area.

Fellow students are being too noisy. What can I do?

If you are studying in the Silent Zone and your peers are talking, or you are in the Quiet Zone and they are being too loud, click the Noisy Neighbour icon on your screen. This will automatically email our reception staff who will come and see what's going on as soon as they can.

Where can I get help?

There are various help points throughout the library. The Helpdesk in the foyer area is a good starting point for general queries. Throughout the day members of staff will be roaming in the library and will be happy to help with any query.

How can I give feedback?

We run a system called ServMetric, which is available on our website, on each PC and a stand-alone console near the main entrance. What you say will be directed to our User Services Team - if you leave your email address, they will get back to you.
